I was not aware they were also doing this to our "good for you" nuts! Is there any food left that they don't destroy?? It's disgusting. Here is what I wrote the Almond Board. Let's all write and hopefully it will make a difference.

``````````````````````````````````````````````
I find it deplorable that you feel the need to pasteurize your almonds. Despite your arguments that it doesn't change the almond, you are sadly mistaken. It removes the nutritional value of the almond AND yes, it also changes the taste and texture of the almond. They don't taste nearly as good! In fact they taste quite bland.
Despite having the "best" healthcare in the world, America has the highest rates of cancer and illness....and it's quite apparent it has to do with our food and what is being done to it. The more you process our foods as well as all the preservatives, chemicals etc. you add to them, the sicker we're going to get. Without these much needed nutrients due to our foods becoming more and more processed and tampered with our health situations are just going to continue to get worse. 'Nuking'/pasteurizing/irradiating food removes the nutrients...period. Please reconsider your stand on this or myself and many others will be shopping for our almonds elsewhere.
Thank you for listening.
Kristine
re: Do You Know What Pasteurization and Irradiation Really Mean?
I placed my message through http://www.almondboard.com/utilities.com
thank you LM36 for the site info.
I consume raw almonds, walnuts and pecans nearly every day, at least a few. Because there is so much talk with the almond board, fda and usda working diligently on this, it causes me to 'think' that they're already further ahead than they're telling us. Google depopulation and see what you get. I'm surprized with all Doc tells us we haven't caught on yet. Their goal;
500 million, planet wide. And if you can't see this from the adulteration of our food chain, good luck. I stay on top of everything going on in this country, but most people I know don't want to hear anything negative. They just want to be happy, no hassels. Watching what you eat is a full time job today. I hate it, but my health is too important. I choose not to be like all the sickly people around me. Everything God made is good. As long as man hasn't intervened. Nothing man has made is good. man has ...excuse me, corporations have poisoned and polluted the entire planet. I didn't do any. But we are taking the blame for the planets woes.
One more piece of advice...florescent lights have mercury in them. What possible good can this be for the environment? What will the landfill workers do with it? What will the fish do with it? What will it taste like when we drink it? Metallic? I just finished an article where a lady replaced 13 bulbs in her house with CFL's, and broke one on her daughters carpet. The estimate to clean it up was $2000.00. She had to visqueen the room off from the rest of the house till she could save up the money. Mass insanity...Depopulation folks...check it out yourselves... I also read that article about how all amonds would be pastuerized. I called the owner of sproutedalmonds.com and he said that manufacturers would be excempt or something like that and his product would not change. I was happy to hear that as this whole sprouting thing is new to me and I was happy to have found a place to purchase them without having to soak them myself. I had tried this and they were not enjoyable one bit after soaking. These are soaked, raw, slightly salted and crunchy. I just wondered if all the almond lovers knew that they should be soaked overnight prior to eating them, to remove the enzyme inhibitor that all almonds have. All this health stuff is so very interesting but there's a lot to learn. I am eternally grateful to this internet.
re: Do You Know What Pasteurization and Irradiation Really Mean?
Ok, the FDA & USDA & the California Almond Board have decided that raw almonds must be pasteurized, but not labelled as such. Mandatory almond pasteurization will start no later than September 2007. I signed a petition against it at http://gopetition.com/petitions/mandatory-almond-pasteurization-is-wrong.html today. I am sure Dr. Mercola would have some choice words for this situation - I know I do! Anyway, I am absolutely CRAVING some raw milk, but am not allowed the freedom to buy any in this "free" country. I DO NOT want to see almonds go the same way and I am sure Dr. Mercola's readers agree. Let's nip this one in the bud if we can, folks!
Mary (aka-Mrrr)
re: Do You Know What Pasteurization and Irradiation Really Mean?
Ok, the FDA & USDA & the California Almond Board have decided that raw almonds must be pasteurized, but not labelled as such. Mandatory almond pasteurization will start no later than September 2007. I signed a petition against it at http://gopetition.com/petitions/mandatory-almond-pasteurization-is-wrong.html today. I am sure Dr. Mercola would have some choice words for this situation - I know I do! Anyway, I am absolutely CRAVING some raw milk, but am not allowed the freedom to buy any in this "free" country. I DO NOT want to see almonds go the same way and I am sure Dr. Mercola's readers agree. Let's nip this one in the bud if we can, folks!
Mary (aka-Mrrr)
re: Do You Know What Pasteurization and Irradiation Really Mean?
Any product that is packaged is not to be trusted, even if it is labeled organic. Best foods to purchased come in bulks and is labeled CERTIFIED ORGANIC, with the preface number 9. Very important to know. If the pre-face number is any other but 9 , know that the food has been tampered with.
If I recall correctly, Almonds are high in Omega-6 fatty acids. We usually have no shortage of them as we do the Omega-3 fatty acids. In fact, the Omega-6 to Omega-3 ratio for the average American is way too heavy in Omega-6’s which create more of a “pro-inflammatory state”. Thus, it might be better to not eat almonds at all any way and eat Pecans and Walnuts which have more Omega-3’s and fewer Omega-6’s (albeit they are in the ALA form and not the EPA or DHA form that we as humans use more efficiently). We can only wait to see when they will wish to “pasteurize” all nuts.
re: Do You Know What Pasteurization and Irradiation Really Mean?
People - I suggest we offer ourselves up in a huge experiment so that the rest of the modern world can see the benefit they get from newfangled foods and Big Pharma! We can volunteer to be the "controls", living the old-fashioned way, and let the rest of mankind be the "treatment" group, eating processed irradiated food and THE BEST DRUGS BIG PHARMA HAS TO OFFER (I know, they would think they're cheating). Mortality and disease can be measured year-to-year. Are we willing to make this sacrifice? We can even offer to keep track of the data (not because we expect to be around longer...) Duane
re: Do You Know What Pasteurization and Irradiation Really Mean?
The problem with these labs and bureaucrats is that even if they were honest about “nutritive value” – and I doubt it - measuring the levels of protein and fat doesn’t tell you if the fat has been oxidized, or if the protein’s structure has been misfolded, nor can they measure the effects on the life-force of fresh raw food.
