What should not be overlooked is the fact that these adds clearly state that these chemicals cause heart problems and life threatening stomach bleeding. This absolves the manufacturer from any liability resulting from their use. Combined with the FDA warnings on these products, the manufacturers have a free pass to sell these life threatening products with impunity.

The FDA has issued warnings for all selective NSAIDs (Vioxx, Bextra and Celebrex) as well as all non-selective NSAIDs like Advil and Motrin clearly stating the same thing: these chemicals cause very serious health problems, even when used as directed.

Unfortunately, the FDA warnings get little media exposure. On the FDA site, this potentially life saving warning is buried so deep, you have to dig to locate it and even then, the dangers may not be clear to the average person as the warning is muddied with a lot of extraneous information.

Considering this is a $10 billion industry whose products compromise the lives of hundreds of millions of people, you would think the FDA would sense an obligation to make this information easy to find for consumers. Clearly the FDA’s actions and the manufacturers’ ads serve one goal: shield the manufacturers from liability. The message is clear. These products will harm you and they may kill you. You have been warned, so now the harm they inflict is your own fault if you choose to use them.

Big pharma has so insinuated themselves into our society that doctors are afraid to not follow their protocol lest they be sued. I had two doctors since my heart attack in late 2001 to send me certified letters giving me 30 days to find another doctor because I chose not to take the drugs and use nutritional approaches instead. After the heart attack, I did follow their orders. Then I started learning what I was in for if I continued on that path. People want a quick fix. I share what I know and mostly those who agree have already done their own work in that regard. Those who want a magic pill think I'm crazy for not following doctor's orders with the meds. My own husband believes his mainstream doctor knows best. He believes FDA is looking out for us. He believes I am misguided and brainwashed. I believe we are being weakened from within by greed and corruption and the notion that we are foolish when we decide to take responsibility for our own health and well being and thanks to people like Dr. Joseph Mercola, I KNOW BETTER. I see another doctor Friday and I am praying he will work with me instead of against me. But he is mainstream. He has pharma ads all over his place. But my insurance, TriCare, will not allow me access to real doctors and I don't have the financial freedom to pay out of pocket for a real doctor. I did find a local farm that has certified organic produce and real milk. And I have God who strengthens me. Hugs from Florida

There is pretty good evidence that omega 3 whether from plant or animal sources reduce inflammation. is probably is. Omega 3; plant based sterols, ginger, EFT, gentle exercise, acupuncture all have been shown to have benefit in reducing inflammation and reducing pain What they have in common is none increase your risk of heart attacks and strokes. The argument should not be which is better fish oil or plant based sterols. But are they both better than cox 2 inhibitors. The article that started this discussion was published on medscape: thats about as mainstream as you can get. Even there alternate methods are being talked about. Why then do most advisory groups minimize these facts . The AHA knows that fish oils prevent coronary disease why is this not stressed as much as statin therapy. It's because as Santino says in one of my favorite movies "There' a lot of money in that white powder."

I've eliminated every prescription from my own life. I also only take medicines as a last resort.

Pharma companies should market to the medical community (bad enough) not to consumers! We restrict alcohol and tobacco advertising (even though they are strong political lobbies)... why can't we restrict prescription drug advertising to doctors only? I feel like I'm losing control over the health of my family, when Guardasil is marketed to my grade school daughter under the guise of saving her from cancer, and they may make it a law in my state and therefore required in order to keep my child in school! Merck is out of control.

Celebrex nearly killed my mother. She was taking it for severe joint pain due to athritis and being heavy. I believe she was within days of dying. She had a similar horrible response to chronic use of ibruprofen which also nearly killed her plus has damaged her kidneys and liver.

Now with diabetes plus stage 4 lymphoma ... she's on more pills than I can count. I'm also convinced many of her current issues are due to an adverse reaction to beta blockers (including chronic fatique and loss of muscle tone due to inactivity).

The net result of everything above is that she's lost her mobility at a time when she should be enjoying herself. She's 64, in a long term marriage, and her kids are grown. She sits in a chair in pain when she should be painting or going for walks or spending time with her grandchildren.

She was healthy with the exception of a weight problem up until a few years ago. When she became diabetic she started a chain reaction of drugs (to control sugar, to control colesterol, pain... etc.) then MORE drugs to counteract the adverse effects of the prescriptions, and so on.

So, I believe the majority of her issues were brought on by prescription medicines and I hate to see them on TV!!!!

As shown by this story from today's NY Times, Merck also apparently thinks people have short memories...

Merck's is seeking FDA approval for American sales of their pain reliever Arcoxia, their successor to Vioxx, which according to Merck's own study showed similar risks of heart attacks when compared with another painkiller, diclofenac. Diclofenac is considered by some cardiologists to be among the most dangerous of standard arthritis treatments in terms of heart safety.
One can only hope that these acts of desperation are what will finally reveal the truth to the public. Wouldn't that be ironic?

Celebrex, in 8 out of 8 people I know, that initially took it, QUIT. All saying it severely constipated them "at best" and caused "wild blood pressure and heart palpitations" among 5 of the 8.

"Celebrex almost killed me, I thought I was have a heart attack" one person told me, about a year ago, before they stopped, the remainder of their prescription.

Celebrex is a DANGEROUS product!!!

NO ONE should be taking Celebrex under any circumstances!!!

Where is the common sense in America? This drug is no different than before just a different marketing plan. So Pfizer devotes about 5 sec. of a 2.5 minute commercial describing the possible side effects of using Celebrex. Are we in the Dark Ages here or are people going to start realizing that Big Pharma is untrustworthy. These are the risks in black and white: "Like all prescription NSAIDs, CELEBREX may increase the chance of a heart attack or stroke that can lead to death. It should not be used right before or after certain heart surgeries". So would your rather be in pain or be dead? It doesn't get much clearer than that folks. There are many safe pain relieving alternatives besides a prescription for disaster.

It is so sick that we allow them to advertise like this. All those people with stocks in these companies are what help drive this thing.. They're happy to see the commercials because it will bring them more money!

The news is bought and paid for by mega corporations like the drug companies. They spread their propaganda and disinformation to the public daily..
