Green tea can destroy Vit B1 and B vitamins are water soluble. I took Green tea to prevent cancer, lose weight, antoxidant and heal my gut lining. IBS and diabetes are celiac things. It is alot easier to not eat dairy and grains (hurts celiac people) than to try to heal the gut lining with tea and other things. I stopped drinking tea once and I started to laugh again. I think it drained too many B vitamins out of me. I used to drink alot of it and I was always in the bathroom. I still drink tea but I have cut back on it..

re: Green Tea Found to Protect You From Autoimmune Diseases

Does this mean that if a Type 1 diabetic took a supplement that contains Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), his / her condition may improve or blood sugar numbers would go down?

re: Green Tea Found to Protect You From Autoimmune Diseases

New (?) fluoride-iodide theory. Japanese and other seaweed eating coastals get lots of iodine, like 100X more than the rest of us, I read. Fluoride displaces iodide. But if your getting lots of iodine - it would be less of a problem. If you're getting too little iodine - trouble brewing (brewing as in green tea). If you have reduced salt for hypertension or taking non-iodized salt or little salt, you may be getting way too little iodine. If drinking green tea for health benefits, maybe boost iodine! I take about 1000 - 2000 mcg/day = 1 - 2 mg/day, with more energy and no deleterious effects for maybe 1.5 years. Mostly from kelp. Have gone higher for months, no problem just more energy.

re: Green Tea Found to Protect You From Autoimmune Diseases

I am SO enjoying all the wonderful comments on the great benefits from green tea, and thank you all for them. I and my husband have tried for years to drink it, but it constipates us, since it has an astringent effect.

I would so appreciate help from Russ, from Dr. M., or anyone else who can help on how to brew the tea so that there's no constricting effect to it, as we really enjoy it, and we both certainly could use the anti-inflammatory effects.

Please HELP. Thanks in advance.

re: Green Tea Found to Protect You From Autoimmune Diseases

Friends,

Since 'arriving' at tasty green tea via Starbuck's powdered tea, i've been seeking an organic source of powdered green tea so I can VitaMix my own tasty conconctions at home.

I welcome comments about organic powdered green tea - AND sourcing it...I realize that it is 'processed,' but the mix of green tea with raw milk, and other liquids, is a delight....SANS Starbucks.

This is part of a transition I'm making to eating and purchasing on the principals set out by Sally Fallon/Westin A.
PLEASE read this article about the very high levels of fluoride in
various tea plants...especially green tea (and how it adversely affects
the thyroid...and every other part of our bodies that poison/fluoride
harms).

Here's an excerpt:

Tea is very high in fluoride content. Fluoride in tea is much higher
than the Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) set for fluoride in drinking
water.

Tea leaves accumulate more fluoride (from pollution of soil and air)
than any other edible plant (1,2,3). Fluoride content in tea has risen
dramatically over the last 20 years, as has tea consumption (4).

Sadly, with the earth as saturated with chemical fluoride as it is,
there's no way to tell the chemical poison from naturally occuring
fluoride...but even naturally occuring fluoride cripples people in
regions where it is prevalent.

Although green tea may have very many healing aspects, our world is so
poisoned, that ingesting green tea is far more of a risk to health than
many know.

Knowledge IS the key to health :)
She had a terrible case of mastitis, with a fever of over 102. Then, her milk stopped coming in and she was forced to feed the baby a soy based formula. She is still trying to pump, with little success (1/4 of an oz after 20 min/side) and it is still very painful. She read that "Fenugreek" sometimes helps the milk supply, but that you have to take a lot of it. I believe she said 2 capsuls 3x/day. She said that it can cause the body to produce a scent similar to maple syrup. She wants so badly to nurse, and would like to try this. I told her I would ask the experts.. Dr. Mercola...Dr. Gussa...Russ...anyone else who might know: Is this herb safe? Is it effective in helping to produce milk? Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks.

re: Green Tea Found to Protect You From Autoimmune Diseases

Comment deleted due to inappropriate content.

re: Green Tea Found to Protect You From Autoimmune Diseases

I have always liked Green Tea, when I eat Sushi I drink it.
Don’t you just love it when science finally “proves” what we have been saying all along?

Hears one: Science has proven Bloodroot cures cancer (and I am not talking about those stupid black salves with chloride of zinc in them that burn stuff off)

You can read about the research from the pharma guys at many places from this page. There are two different links of research and you could print a small book on it if you follow the links!

But guess what!! They don’t want to say anything publicly because they are refusing to do any thing about it. Why? Because they would have to synthesize the whole plant and since they can’t do that, they don’t care because they can’t patent it and make big money! They hide the info and hope nobody ever reads it BUT HERE IT IS BOYS AND GIRLS!

GERRRR!

re: Green Tea Found to Protect You From Autoimmune Diseases

Plant nutrients from dark green leafy sources have been used for optimum health in humans, and animals, as long as the species have existed.

Remove these essential nutrient, amino acids (many the body cannot produce on it's own), bioavailable vitamins, minerals, fiber, plant sterols, anit-inflammatories, etc. (the list is very long) and your health suffers.

Argumentation that these beneficial properties can be found in pills, capsules, gel caps, tinctures, glorified fruit juice (stripped, deionized, concentrated) based brands is generally DUBIOUS at best.

If the liquid(s) is indeed green, be it steeped from dry sources, or fresh sources, there is a better probability of benefit.

As like the good Dr. reminds us, IF the botanical itself is not somehow dumb downed, or cross contaminated, or the source of liquid it's being put into for proper utilization on dosage, for a specific person over a specific period of time, is not compromised.

It's generally easier being healthy when you use GREEN.
