Trophology isnt a dietary plain in itself, its one aspect of a dietary plan and without taking in any other nutrtitional considerations it has very little merit. Theres no reason why you can't both follow Dr.mercolas diet and the rules of trophology concurrently.
Secondly im not sure about this fit for life diet, I got most my information from philip days books (which have some good points and some dubious points) and from the tao of health, sex and longevity.
In answer to Scott v's qoute "As far as I know, no population has ever lived under these food combining principles", well firstly let me say that the biggest culinary offender in trophology is combining grains (starch) with meat (protein). Numerous tribes and cultures of longevity, as well as most of mankind before civilization subsisted on diets in which grains were completely absent. So by default they were already adhering to the number 1 rule of trophology by not combining starch with protein. Since grains are the only food that can't be eaten raw and for most of history they wernt apart of the human diet, in all probability we were never really meant to eat them and this may explain why they combine poorly with other foods.
Animals instinctively do not combine carbs with meat. It is also theorized that humans were originally (going a long way back) vegetarians who then developed the ability to consume meat out of neccesity which may explain why meat combines poorly with some foods, fruit for instance. (to be continued)...

re: Breakthroughs Are Exploding -- How Do You Keep Up?

Arrrrr...SharpReader does not support Macs. What it basically boils down to is that, any given ingredients regardless of their purity or nutrtitional quality can be healthier or less healthy depending on how they are combined. For instance, its proposed that starch shouldn't be combined with meat because the alkaline enzyme ptyalin pours into the food as its chewed in the mouth. When the food reaches the stomach, digestion of starch by alkaline enzymes continues unabated, thereby preventing the digestion of protein by pepsin and other acid secretions. Bacteria in the stomach are thus permitted to attack the protein and putrefication commences, rendering nutrients in the protein food largely useless to you and producing toxic wastes and foul gases, including such poisons as indol, skatol, phenol, hydrogen sulphide, phenylpropionic acid and others.
It also says that fruits (especially acid fruits) shouldnt be eaten with meat because they will ferment rather than digest, and they shouldnt be eaten on a full stomach.
It affirms that milk curdles immediately upon entering the stomach , so if there is other food present the curds coagulate around other food particles and insulate them from exposure to gastric juices, delaying digestion long enough to permit the onset of putrefication.

Any thoughts? I don't know whether to worry about this stuff or not but it seems to make sense.
