Researchers asked more than 100 alcoholics between the ages of 18 and 40, as well as 68 non-alcoholics, to complete a series of brain function tests

re: Alcohol Harms Women Faster Than Men

People are not born alcoholics, junkies or anything else. They may carry a gene that predisposes them to become addicted to certain chemicals. Many and most lead perfectly normal lives, but some do suffer environmental and emotional experiences which can lead them to be what others see as weak, evil and horrible people and they then react in this way, carrying out horrible and dispicable crimes. Maybe the answer to this is to monitor our children more closely, life for me as a child at school was a nightmare I lived everyday. Yet when I was growing up it was all glue sniffers (it wasn't my seen), drugs were available but I always needed to be in control of me (so drugs weren't an option). Alcohol approx 25 units per week and nicotine are my vices. I do not binge drink but consume 4-5 units dailly(twice a year I may be classified as having drunk too much) and 25 cigs daily. Does this make me a horrible person? I hope not.

re: Alcohol Harms Women Faster Than Men

If wine is so bad for you then why did the Creator ( Jesus) of mankind Turn 60 gallons of water into wine at a wedding feast for his first miracle.

re: Alcohol Harms Women Faster Than Men

People who use both brain hemispheres (women) are much more likely to suffer from the debilitating effects of drugs than people who only use one hemisphere (men). As with anything else let moderation be the key. Just ask the French, Italians and the Greeks they will tell you a glass of red wine especially with dinner is the best. Apart from all the health benefits it aids in digestion and also lowers the glycemic index or causes the sugars and starches in food(s) to be gradually absorbed into the bloodstream, not to mention the "social" aspect of having a glass with good friends and family. Also i believe while the skin and the seed is considered the best the whole fruit (grape) should be consumed, but again moderately depending on your present state of health. Nature designed foods to be consumed as a whole not part of it, like eating an egg and throwing away the yolk because it's high in cholesterol. One day we'll wake up and find out that there's something in the flesh of the grape that's absolutely crucial to health and we'll be in awe again.......
Eat whole fresh foods the way it exists in nature and follow the good doctor's advise and we'll be fine... I know we will.......

re: Alcohol Harms Women Faster Than Men

Just make sure you add some fruit - I am joking, of course, but this was in today's paper: Can you even believe it?

U.S. and Thai researchers are saying that fruity cocktails count as health food because adding ethanol to fruit boosts the antioxidant nutrients of berries.
http://www.cnn.com/2007/HEALTH/diet.fitness/04/20/nutrition.cocktails.reut/index.html

So there you go ... I'm gonna go have a bowl of ketchup soup and wash it down with a strawberry margarita for the perfect, healthy meal!

re: Alcohol Harms Women Faster Than Men

This post was deleted because it violated our Terms Of Use :
Comment does not pertain to the topic of the article or does not provide value or insight to the discussion. According to Dr. Larson in the book Depression Free Naturally, he states that women produce much less serotonin than men. Besides food and other stressors, alcohol decreases the amount of serotonin in the body, especially in the gut. This could be one major reason why women "feel" the after affects of alcohol more.

I personally feel that women have much more hormones than males. Hormones are very sensitive to anything that is put in or on the body, as well as affected by thoughts. There is research to show that 1 microgram of any hormone that is put into the body will have an affect on every aspect of the body. So, alcohol is a very powerful substance that has a large impact of much of the endocrine system, neurotrasmitters and so forth.
