NLP talks about eye movements -- up is visual, horizontal is audio and down is tactile (kinesthetic). Eyes left is accessing audio-recall. Noted that this experiment was done with the spoken word (sound). If done with visual presentation of words it wouldn't have worked (unless they had people look UP and side to side)
Keith Scott-Mumby

re: Simple Trick to Help Your Memory by Moving Your Eyes

This sounds entirely plausible. It also sounds very similar to EMDR. My experience with EMDR is that it also WORKS.

If you notice, this type of eye movement is very similar to what happens during REM sleep spontaneously--- it's actually CALLED Rapid Eye Movement sleep. There is some evidence that REM sleep helps memory consolidation--- ie it helps you remember better when you get enough REM sleep.

Here's a link:

http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/bb/neuro/neuro98/202s98-paper2/Miller2.html

Seems to me that, for whatever reason, moving the eyes in this way actually helps you remember things better---whether you are awake or sleeping when you do it!!

re: Simple Trick to Help Your Memory by Moving Your Eyes

See Brain Gym (www.braingym.org). Paul Dennison created and has been teaching this amazing technique for years. Brain Gym and EFT are my two favorite healing and transformational tools. They are miraculous!

re: Simple Trick to Help Your Memory by Moving Your Eyes

Of corse it's true; does Eye movement help your two brains, or does it just stop one brain for a split second? We all know, among other things including rapid eye movement, that it gets your concious brain (left hemisphere) off of analizing the world and everything in it, especially what someone else is doing, thus, allowing your (right hemisphere) to actually do a little work for you such as giving a little hint about yourself and your capabilities. After all, remember what Jesus said-when your inner becomes your outer, and your outer becomes your inner, you will become one and you will know yourself. Who would you rather know, yourself, or someone else. Your left brain analizes everything else, but your right brain analizes yourself. Can you handle that. Most people I chat with about this subject gets mad because they actually see a little bit about themselves. The truth. That's when they find out that just believing something to be true, is a world apart from knowing it to be true for a fact. Most of them don't want it. Try it, lay down close your eyes and relax and get your mind off of the world and look at nothng, you just might be amazed at what you see. Keep up the good work Dr. Mercola. I am on your side.

re: Simple Trick to Help Your Memory by Moving Your Eyes

If this is true, it may be because mentally focussing on your temporal lobes may stimulate them. I meditate, and when I do I focus on my brow point (third eye) and chant a mantra and imagine it moving into the top of my head and out my brow point. This makes me feel so much better, so much more relaxed, and I'm a recovering psychiatric victim! I read that this type of meditation stimulates the pituitary gland, which is located in the area near the brow point. So by focussing mentally on that mental area, you can stimulate that gland. Maybe by focussing on where the temporal lobes are, you can stimulate them to action! I will be trying this a lot now, since those psychiatric drugs have wrought havoc on my memory!

re: Simple Trick to Help Your Memory by Moving Your Eyes

Somebody is pulling our leg, me thinks.
