Wiley, Royal Lee, and others in the 1920's and 1930's warning us all about the dangers of raping the soils of needed nutrients. They lost the fight. Dr. Wiley instead of the Nobel Prize received a notice of termination. He was the first and last honest doctor to serve as head of the FDA. In short, it is the absence of ionized calcium in the blood that renders us susceptible to viruses - whether it be the herpes simplex or polio. Why did polio strike in the summer months? Why does cervical cancer spike in August? Because sunlight irradiates vitamin D and it does it's job of mobilizing calcium - it is only a problem when we lack the necessary fatty acids, called Vitamin F to release that calcium back into the tissues. If you supplement with Vit D, be sure that you complement that with essential fatty acids to keep it balanced. Along with Dr. Mercola's excellent info, check out the work by Mark Anderson at Selene River Press - he has republished great archival material from the time when science was 'scientific' and not bought-and-sold marketing for the oil industry. Read Dr. Royal Lee's work. His observations, now 50 years old, are necessary knowledge.

re: New Evidence That Sun Exposure Prevents Cancer

I agree sunlight is very important for good health. I had Melanoma 7 years ago on my back and it was not in any stage yet but I was still scared, I had it removed with no other treatment. I do believe the Lord fixed that one because my diet was awful at the time, I am now 100% vegetarian (no animal products) for 6 years and love it. I did sunbathe to much but never really burned although I used tanning beds 1-2 times a week for ten years that was my fault not the natural sun that God gave us. Us the sun for your health not vanity and you will benefit from it's healing powers.

re: New Evidence That Sun Exposure Prevents Cancer

This is great information, and timely too, as my husbands doctor just recommended a vitamin D supplement. My husbands family has had two cases of melanoma and one of lung cancer in less than a year. The scary thing is my bil has stage 4 melanoma and they can NOT figure out how it got into his system. I'm very happy to say we've found an integrative doctor who believes in treating the whole person, so I feel my hubby is in good hands, but it is still scary.

I was wondering about the effects of vitamin d and sunlight for those that have cancer myself, as my bil is currently undergoing treatments at Columbia University (using viral injections as opposed to radiation). Any thoughts/ideas on this would be greatly appreciated.

re: New Evidence That Sun Exposure Prevents Cancer

I am confused about Vitamin D so hopefully someone on here can help me figure this out. I read the article "seven diseases cured by one amazing wonder drug" which I found on mercola.com, and it said that a fair-skinned person (which i am) can generate between 10,000 to 20,000IU of vitamin D in 15 minutes. The recommendations are 1,000 to 2,000 IU per day. Does this mean I need only about one minute of sun exposure per day?? According to this article, one minute would give me about 1,000 IU which should be sufficient, correct?? just had to add my 2 cents of observation . . . . I have 5 kids . . 2 are redheads and myself is fair & freckled skin and usually tend to burn easy when we were covered in sunscreen. Last year I decided to not use sunscreen at all (after learning about the toxic chemicals in it) and decided to send my kids outside as much as possible in the cooler days of spring & early summer to get their body 'used' to the sun. They spent EVERY sunny day in the pool or at the lake and NEVER got burned! With our crazy schedule, we'd end up in the water during the peak of the sunlighty would always get some form of burn while using sunscreen. I believe the chemicals we put on ourselves & our babies & our diet really affects the cancer levels . . .not the sun! NOTE: Do NOT use baby oil/mineral oil on your skin . . . . clogs pores & keeps your skin from doing it's job properly. Take a look at all the lotions & baby things and you'll see the #1 or #2 ingredient is mineral oil!!! A by-product of the gasoline industry . . . yuck!! Once we stopped using anything with mineral oil (or petroleum) our skin became less dry & didn't seem to 'need' lotion anymore!!

thanks, Dr Mercola, for all your insight & studies! Glad to know I'm not the only 'freak' that is against common brainwashed thoughts of our society!

As for cancer . . . get your body pH to be alkaline & cancer will die! Eating organic fruits & veggies and stay away from tap water will help with this too.

;-)

re: New Evidence That Sun Exposure Prevents Cancer

I like this article so much that I'm posting about it on my own blog, the Atlantis blog. I, too, realize how important it is to be out in the sun. For a lot of different reasons, and all of them good!

I'm not a doctor, but I agree with a lot that Doctor Mercola has to say.

re: New Evidence That Sun Exposure Prevents Cancer

No one believes me when I say so. It's especially hard when you're trying to tell someone who knows someone who had cancer from too much sun exposure. Whether sunscreen was involved or not, we don't know (many of which are carcinogenic but people don't believe me)... Still, it's like I'm speaking a Martian language when I say that the sun is good and to not wear sunscreen or sunglasses. I really hope the rest of the world catches on...

re: New Evidence That Sun Exposure Prevents Cancer

Using sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun is not safe in any way.
