That's the key most people are missing, in even being able to want to be healthy. Then they need to do body-weight calisthenics (particularly the Royal Court). Weights and cardio are for the slave-minded.

re: Exercise: Critical Element of a Long-Term Weight-Loss Solution

I've been exercising for years. Thanks to an article I read from Dr. Mercola a few years ago, I have changed the way I do the cardio component of my exercise regimen. I now follow a program outline by Al Sears in his new book called PACE.

I have found it quite effective and it actually takes much less time than the program recommended in this article and the programs typically recommended by the American Heart and American Medical Associations. Thanks, Dr. Mercola, for the insight.

re: Exercise: Critical Element of a Long-Term Weight-Loss Solution

Regular, consistent, low impact, EXERCISE: it works almost every time it has been tried.

re: Exercise: Critical Element of a Long-Term Weight-Loss Solution

This is very good advice, as usual for Vital Votes : )

I have been walking two miles every day for about a year and a half now and it has helped me lose about 25 pounds. I find that I miss the walking on rare occasions when I can't do it. I recently started adding some jogging on gravel paths through a nearby park after I found I was huffing and puffing when I jogged a few times with my 9 yo daughter's soccer team during practice. That got my confidence up, so when the coach had the girls running some sprints recently, I thought I'd give it a try. I'm 54 and haven't run sprints since I was a teenager, but I felt good so I gave it a try. Well ... now I have a much greater appreciation for just how fast those girls are!!! I nearly fell on my face trying to keep up and I still couldn't beat the two fastest girls on the team. I tried a second sprint and, though I didn't stumble, I still couldn't beat the fastest two. My thigh muscles were sore for a week. At least I didn't have a heart attack : )

I still want to loose another 20 pounds, so I see more jogging in my future. It's never too late to start an exercise program. Just be careful not to over-exert (like me - who always has to learn the hard way).
