I'm totally on board with what you are saying. I find it ironic, however, that after you condemn Wal-Mart for outsourcing everything to China that you have done the same thing - you're having the cast iron pans that you've been promoting heavily made in... China...

Would you consider reconsidering your manufacturing choice and outsource pans to a US or German maker?

Of course, you face the same question Wal-Mart faces. Make them in China and you'll be able to sell them so cheap that you'll have trouble keeping them in stock. Make them in the US and no one will barely take notice because they'll cost 4 times the price... Maybe you could make them here and explain why they're more and why that's worth it. I would be more inclined to buy them from you then and you'd be practicing what you're teaching...

I think I remember reading on this site the awful treatment of berry growers by the FDA after they advertised that berries were healthy for you and some of the treatment these small farmers had received by selling raw cow milk. I believe one was surrounded by police? Its funny how Walmart can deceive such a large number of people and just get a warning letter. Thankfully after reading some of the articles on Walmart and organic food from Mercola I had never bought any organic produce from them.

Read an interesting article in The Epoch Times, a quote of which is copied here...

William Hubbard, a former deputy commissioner of the FDA, told NPR about one Chinese factory that manufactures herbal tea.

"To speed up the drying process, they would lay the tea leaves out on a huge warehouse floor and drive trucks over them so that the exhaust would more rapidly dry the leaves out. And the problem there is that the Chinese use leaded gasoline, so they were essentially spewing the lead over all these leaves," said Hubbard.

What this indicates is Walmart is in the counterfeit products business. There is no labeling mistake here, only a mistake in getting caught. A high percentage of Walmart products are sourced in China where counterfeit products are so out of control the Chinese Government is powerless to stop it. Consequently Walmart is in league with Chinese couterfeiters. A company operating in this ethical vacuum sees nothing wrong with creating counterfeit organic food through false labeling. Couterfeit food ingredients recently led to the deaths of thousands of pets through kidney failure. Wamart's own-brand pet food was one of those involved. If you think counterfeit and toxic food ingredients are limited to pet food, think again. Take Dr. Mercola's advice and buy your food wherever possible from local sources.

OH, MY~ Sigh......... For some of us "newbys" who are trying to read and learn.....where do we go from here? I have been composting, but here in central TX, our soil is filled with lime stone. I tried a small garden that yielded a few strawberries, if I could get them before the pillbugs did, a bowl-full of tomatoes, a few grapfruit-size cantelope. I actually have a melon vine growing from my compost pile! We will have to do pot-gardening or bring in loads of "good soil" in a raised bed.

As I stated in my post yesterday, on this subject, there is not enough truly Organic certified inspected crops, produce, or other labeled Organic categories in agricultural production, domestically, to supply all these false, deceptive, profiteering, & CRIMINAL claims, of being Organic, in the large super market chains!

When these super market executives are criminally prosecuted for FRAUD, piercing corporate shield, & do hard personal JAIL time, or seven figure plus fines, for their phony & made up organic certification (or hired services not doing their jobs) then, & only then, we might see some correction (but I'm not holding my breath).

Other than the time honored ancient Roman consumer advice: "Let The Buyer Beware", may I also suggest that the previous indicator of higher pricing for Organic CANNOT be trusted AT ALL now...because the retailers are intentionally LYING about it being Organic, to get the higher profit margins!!!

Said another way: "Panic, If You Are Being Told It's Organic!"

What remains most alarming to me, besides the dumbing down of what are purportedly 'good for you' claims in the food chain, is the false, illegal & deceptive ingredient labeling that pervades the entire packaged natural health food industry.

This industry, which is about 4 cents out of every food dollar, in the USA, has semantical ingredient descriptors that in fact do not exist, per CFR, to HIDE the real sourcing & garner higher price points.

Yes, Wal Mart got caught RED-HANDED in Wisconsin, per Dr. Mercola's posting, but every day in natural health food stores, independent, or chain runned, the violations in comparison, per labeling are staggeringly higher by percentage (one example is "evaporated cane juice/syrup" - IT'S WHITE REFINED SUGAR, metabolized 100% as SUGAR! Also, "Organic Sugar" is not better for you than white sugar!).

I'd go a step further and seek out heirloom varieties of produce. Hybrid plants are one of the factors that surely have affected the nutrient loss in our produce since the 1940s.
