Join usta and start having fun!!!

re: 42 Ways to Improve Your Exercise Routine

What do you think of Jim Karas' new book The Cardio-Free Diet? (Caught my attention because the cover offers "Real results from only 60 minutes per week!") He completely disparages any type aerobic exercise. He promotes strength training (exclusively) for boosting metabolism, weight control, heart health, etc. Although he is apparently a top-celebrity personal trainer and best-selling author, his advice seems pretty radical and in conflict with any other exercise material I've read. Is the science he uses to back up his claims legit?

re: 42 Ways to Improve Your Exercise Routine

Exercise should definitely be part of our daily routine. It is wonderful for our health. Even though people know this, many people don't want to exercise because they think it's boring or it's too much work. I hope these suggestions will people start exercising and that they will continue to do it. I love to exercise! I am always thankful that I can - some people would love to get up and walk, run or do other types of exercises but physically are not able to. Let's not take our health for granted; let's be thankful that we can walk, run and dance and let's get up and move!

In my personal website I have some ways to help people learn to live healthier and get fit. Did anything get you? Here's mine:

LACE UP I really had to stop and think. Why would I cringe at lace up? I hate shoes. I really do. I sit here barefooted and I head outside barefooted. I do as much as possible barefooted. If I must wear shoes, it is usually a good pair of flip flops, not a discount store $2 pair, but a good supporting sole.

I love to walk. We have a 1/4 mile loop around the house, but a good walk requires I lace up. ick. . .shoes. Part of the reason may be my size 12s - womens, wide at that. Find a pair of lace up shoes that work for these feet. I've had injured toes, injured heals, injured feet all over. And guys shoes don't cut it, they are made differently and beat my ankles to pieces. I had to use them for basketball, and the blisters were excruciating. I didn't used to mind lacing up so much, but years of shoe frustration have gotten me to the point that I cringe at the sound of confined shoes.

So, if lacing up is getting to me, then I need to get over it. Right now I have a great pair sneakers that I can put on, haven't bothered my feet yet. And, I love to walk. Flip-flops, no matter how good the design are not good walking shoes, so here I go!! I shall force my feet into socks and sneakers. I just hope I don't wear these ones out before I find another pair that fit. . .why can't they just make the same shoes, instead of always changing the designs?

re: 42 Ways to Improve Your Exercise Routine

Exercise? I don't need to even think about it. Having a four acre holding in West Wales UK and trying to be as self sufficient as possible we get more than enough exercise without having to fit anything extra into the day. The beauty of it is, it costs me nothing, in fact it saves me money, it provides my family with good wholesome food, and we enjoy it!

My suggestion? Buy yourself a property with a bit of land and start getting real productive exercise!

re: 42 Ways to Improve Your Exercise Routine

There are some good suggestions in the list, and for every stage of exercise, from the novice to the marathon exerciser.

Mary

re: 42 Ways to Improve Your Exercise Routine

Very helpful article and lots of good sound ideas.
