Judgment gets you nowhere. I was diagnosed as a Type 2 Diabetic in September of 2006. With diet and exercise and the dreaded drug, Avandamet, I've been able to bring my A1c down from 14 to 7, which is still not where I need to be.

I walk a quick pace 45 minutes each day and the only carbs I consume are from vegetables and nuts. The results? Yes, I've reached my goal weight by losing 40 lbs. But I still have blood sugar in the 200's after eating and as a fasting BS. Forget oats or eating what has been perceived as "healthy" carbs. I test 6 times a day and have learned what I can and cannot eat. I gave up oats and all flour products (whole wheat included) almost immediately. That soars sugar above 300.

My point? Don't be so quick to judge that all type 2 diabetes can be controlled. There are many of us who work very hard at being healthy without drugs. Avandamet does scare me. I have consulted with doctors since the recent Cleveland Clinic report and am doing extensive research to make a decision. I continue to exercise and diligently watch what I can control.

I don't post much due to time restraints, but thought this might be worth mentioning here. Rep Hinchey, NY, is trying to get a bill passed that would make the FDA accountable. If you're interested in such a bill, please call your Representative and ask that they co-sign this bill.

Folks i sincerely believe that everyone should read this article from Ron Rosedale. Read it , read it , re-read again and save for future refrence, it's probably the best few hours of reading you'll probably ever invest in and has changed the way i think, live and eat- kinda like a bible for health.

I think Dr. Mercola and many others are right on. I believe that anyone could reverse Diabetes and that the FDA should be more on top of dangers and side effects. "Should" is a tough languaging, however. I believe that everyone on the planet is doing what makes sense to them. If you listen to the gunman in the recent college murders, he thought he was doing the "right" thing. I bet Physicians and officials that OK these drugs believe they are doing the right thing, as do the Docs that prescribe. I don't think anyone gets out of bed and states, "I wonder how I can do the wrong thing today?" "Should" is not responsible and generally not productive. If we want to increase safety records, "what can I do?" That is more responsible and more productive. And leads toward growth, personally and societally. Same goes for helping others. They should do this or that is a hard place to be. If your loved ones are suffering with Diabetes, they are probably scared. I would be. Should may be hard for them to hear, and it generally will be hard on the should'er.
Thank you Dr. Mercola for "doing" and educating, being there for people who are ready, and helping people get ready. More and more people are listening and changing, and thats great for the planet.

Folks, I don't beleive there is any need to blame, or retaliate against common ideals of whom is responsible for the content and over-all outcomes in the kitchen. We are all responsible.
As far as Type 2 is concerned, our #1 goal should be to tell anyone and everyone who will listen about the knowledge we have that maybe they are not privy to. Our responsibility as citizens in a society where the breakdown of governance is evident in its common purpose to pursue the growth of capitalism over national well-being, is to be responsible to each other. Remember patience as for the last 50 to 70 years, mechanisms have been put in place by those who were educated (such as the Father of Spin, Edward Bernayse), and those companies that would use such information to control the masses for their own personal gain.
This is not only true for Diabetes, but many other afflictions that our brothers and sisters fight everyday because they are ignorant, which is exactly what industry hopes to maintain.
Talk to your neighbours, give them ways to research and find this information out for themselves. I will offer a few suggestions for all of you as well.

Then start asking questions of your local government. Make them aware that you are no longer 'plugged in' to their machine and that you will not sit idly by and allow your neighbour to be afflicted when you know the truth.

Dr. Mercola is a philanthopist of the best kind. With knowledge. Had Bernayse used his knowledge to encourage the public to ask for research on Superfoods,or Organic Farming methods, western society would be coveted, instead of feared. And for that am grateful.

Of all of the outrageous things that have come out recently about the diabetes drug Avandia, I think I've found the winner for the most jaw-dropping, punching bag-worthy one of them all.

A medical expert testified before a House committee on how he was bamboozled into caving before the wrath of GlaxoSmithKline, the maker of Avandia.

This doctor started to wave a flag when he noticed a slew of heart problems among patients who were taking this diabetes drug. GlaxoSmithKline promptly got on the hotline. They called and threatened him with legal action-for hurting the sales of this drug!

So this particular doctor caved, agreeing to sign a statement that was meant to appease the company's investors who had become agitated at the sight of falling sales. But why would he agree to sign anything? This is the type of thing you'd expect from a drug company! But a doctor who had recognized a safety issue? He obviously must have felt some ethical responsibility when he first began to speak out about the problem. What happened to change his mind?

Worse, this was as far back as 1999-which means he has known about these heart risks all of this time. However, he did forward a letter with these concerns to the FDA-which means they've also been aware all of this time!

And now this same doctor is the President-elect for none other than the American Diabetes Association.

Well, well, well. How about that? The American Diabetes Association, which if I recall, is a nonprofit health organization that is dedicated to diabetes advocacy. So much for advocacy, when the president-elect of this organization so willingly swept those saf&&&

"Avandia helps sensitize the body to insulin"....What about trying EXERSIZE, which is safe, natural, and effective for that same purpose?

It's a shame what the drug companies are allowed to get away with.

Even concientious Doctors are abysmally ignorant of nutrition and drugs. They are too busy to read other than AMA publications, which will only publish information complying with the AMA/Pharma filter. In addition if, a Doctor deviates too far from the accepted regimin, he can be in legal and professional jeopardy.
I once had a diebetic friend who was in and out of the emergency room at least once a week because Doctors were unable to control the problem. One day we went a local health food store that kept a file of magazine articles for customers to read. Several articles on the subject of Diabetes referenced Chromiun, Vanadium and Alpha Lipoic Acid as possible mitigating factors. He bought them and in a day or two his Diabetes was gone.and he never made another trip to the emergency room for his Diabetes.
Since then I have found health food stores that carry Diabetic formulas including those items, but that was a few years back.
It is also interesting to note that the diet prescribed for diabetics for many years was actually makling the condition worse.
Cancer is also in the same realm. Whole areas of the world don't have any Cancer...the situation is ignored. Ask a Cancer specialist who Otto Warburg is, for instance. He received a Nobel Prize in the early 30's for discovering what Cancer is, but since he was a biochemist rather than a MD, he is strictly ignored.

My mother is 70 years old. She complains of some health ailment every time I talk with her. She's on 10, that's right, 10 medications and she won't listen to a word I say! I just get so P.O'd with her complaining and she won't do a thing about her illnesses. Her doctor is God and what he says goes. What do I know? How do I know what I can trust on those websites that I go on? And why should she listen to me, because I didn't go to college. (those are questions that she asks me whenever I try to teach her what I've learned from Dr. Mercola and the other various resources that I use) She just doesn't get it, and I have to stand back and just watch her kill herself with all the crap that she puts in her mouth. My father isn't too much better. He just turned 70 2 days ago and he's a Lipitor addict. He can't go off those, because his doctor (whom he thinks of as God also) says that he has to stay on it to keep his cholesterol low. His last number was 121! WT* ? He suffering terribly from arthritis in his hands and has to wear these hand braces. Perhaps his cholesterol and fat is too low and it's not protecting the nerves in his hands and the rest of his body. Another one whom I have to sit back and watch kill himself. He's always got something wrong with his stomach-excruciating pain and vomiting...IT'S THE SIDE EFFECT FROM THE LIPITOR!!! He just won't listen. How do we teach them? How can we save them?

As an alternative MD 25 years.. Finding the cause of disease and correcting it has produced major cures.. This is rewarding to me and the patient.. Take this and hammer it home.."except for antibiotics and maybe an asprin, can anyone name a drug that cures anything?"

I asked a room full of pharmisists that once and got an awsome silence. Then a knowing laughter. No answer though. HEH MD

I believe that you can reverse diabetes with diet and exercise cause there's and epidemic of diabetics out there. Just look at the obesity rate in our society and the SAD diet that their eating it really is sad for them. Then they wonder why their health is getting bad. People shouldn't believe everything that there doc says he just wants your money.
