You know how much I love Google and all its free tools, including Picasa, Gmail and Google Scholar. Well, it seems a former graduate student at the University of Mississippi may have improved on the Google Maps by melding it with U.S. Census data.
During his last semester, one of the classes Jimmy Palmer took studied processing large amounts of data. One class assignment: Do something interesting with a large data set. Using the most current U.S. Census available (10 gigabytes) and Google Maps, Palmer developed gCensus that can tell you how many people live in any area of the country, down to the county and city block where you live.
To get started, I recommend reading the FAQ page first, then the instructions page. But, if you've used Google Maps before, it should be a breeze...
What an amazing and innovative piece of work by one of our youngest and brightest!
