Simple Trick to Help Your Memory by Moving Your Eyes

Moving your eyes horizontally, from side-to-side, for about 30 seconds may be all it takes to give your memory a boost, according to researchers from Manchester Metropolitan University in England.

After hearing a list of words, the study found that those who moved their eyes side-to-side for 30 seconds correctly remembered more than 10 percent more words, and falsely recognized about 15 percent fewer "lure" words, compared to those who moved their eyes up and down or did nothing.

Why would moving your eyes influence your memory?

The researchers suspect it's because the horizontal eye movements cause the two hemispheres of the brain to interact more, and communication between the left and right brain hemispheres is known to help us remember certain things.

The researchers aren't sure whether the eye movements will help people in their daily lives ... but it's certainly worth a try the next time you've misplaced your keys or forgotten your grocery list at home!

A VERY INTERESTING little known proven fact....

I can see it now, shifting eyes from side to side will become standard fare in SAT, LSAT, GRE, GMAT, etc. practice classes.

This technique will also assist podium teleprompter reading and oration.

Not so difficult to explain. NLP talks about eye movements -- up is visual, horizontal is audio and down is tactile (kinesthetic). Eyes left is accessing audio-recall. Noted that this experiment was done with the spoken word (sound). If done with visual presentation of words it wouldn't have worked (unless they had people look UP and side to side)

Horizontal for sound has to be true. It happened to me. One night while turning from my driveway heading to town for some stuff before the store closed, i said outloud, i wish i knew what the powerball number was going to be. At that exact moment, something caught the corner of my eye and i glanced (horizontally) at it real quick, and a voice said NUMBER 4.  I thought about it all the way to town. I bought a powerball ticket, picked the first 5 numbers, picked number 4 for powerball. Two days later i turned in my ticket and guess what, i won $3.00 because the powerball was number 4. Wow, if only i had said i wished for the other 5 numbers to go with it. Only 64 million that night. And for those who has never heard a voice talk to them, then i guess they have never had a dream where they hear someone talk. You see, that lets me off the hook as being crazy. But we all must remember a man's famous phrase over two thousand years ago--this is only for those who are willing to accept it. Those who have eyes let them see, and those who have ears let them hear!

I use the gamut procedure which involves moving the eyes hard down right and left and in circles.  I believe the purpose of the gamut procedure
was to access memory in different visual fields.

A nice benefit-I am not using my bifocals at the computer and if I tap on
an issue I seem to be able to think through it much clearer.
