Fox News Interviews Me

Fox News interviewed me a few weeks ago and aired this on Tuesday April 24.

This is part one, the second part will air on Thursday, but believe me the distortions and deceptions get even worse.

Due to a number of complaints we have received from primarily those that do not have high speed connections we have disabled autoplay on the video that has my commentary edited into the Fox broadcast.

All you need to do is click the play button on my video image on the right.

Once you view my video you are encouraged to view the documentary on Fox that I posted s few weeks ago.

Below is a transcript of the video for those who are unable to view videos.

FOX NEWS REPORTER: He's a doctor in the northwest suburbs, but known the world over for his controversial prescriptions for better health. Dr. Joseph Mercola is on the best-seller list. On YouTube, his unconventional bedside manner is stirring debate. And I talked with the doctor.

They're essentially saying some of your claims are outrageous. Aren't they now?

DR. MERCOLA: It's not outrageous; it's just not allowed.

FOX NEWS REPORTER: He answers critics and offers his views on prescription drugs, raw food, and why he says we could be using the wrong cookware. The doctor is in, when FOX News Chicago continues.

Dr. Mercola's Comment:

Now, I normally don't do TV interviews, especially with such controversial networks as FOX. But considering that I had a pre-existing relationship with the reporter and his wife, I thought I would at least get a fair report. But was I surprised, as you'll see!

FOX NEWS REPORTER: ……. Schaumburg, hoping to change the way medicine is practiced. He thinks he has the perfect prescription for better health, but his advice is unconventional, non-traditional, and it's gotten him into trouble with some of medicine's heavy hitters. His diagnosis for what ails us, in my special report.

DR. MERCOLA: Your body has the intrinsic ability to get healthy by itself.

FOX NEWS REPORTER: "A modern-day, snake-oil salesman!", "A quack!" Dr. Joseph Mercola has heard it all. It rolls like water off a duck's back.

Dr. Mercola's Comment:

Now, I was a bit surprised to hear him start the segment out by using slanderous terms like, "quackery." Isn't it sad? It's even shocking that someone who advocates simple lifestyle changes as an alternative to dangerous medications and surgeries is categorized as a "quack"?

DR. MERCOLA: I don't think there's any justification to it. I mean, I have critics all the time. I post videos on YouTube.

FOX NEWS REPORTER: That's right. A YouTube doctor.

[One of Dr. Mercola's educational videos playing in background]

FOX NEWS REPORTER: Nearly a hundred YouTube.com video clips. It's not the old-fashioned bedside manner; it's the doctor coming straight to you via the internet.

Dr. Mercola's Comment:

Now, in this next clip, I want you to pay careful attention to the title of the video that they chose to display from YouTube. Now, I have over a hundred videos on YouTube, but they chose this specific one to deceive the viewers of this report.

CLIP FROM ONE OF DR. MERCOLA'S VIDEOS, "How to Cut Your Risk of Cancer in Half":

DR. MERCOLA: But this information cannot wait for a year to come out. I've got to share it with you.

Dr. Mercola's Comment:

That title was provocative, and it was "How to Cut Your Risk of Cancer in Half." Now, they're going to use this later in the report to deceive the viewers, and you'll see how. But they fail to tell the viewers that the contents of this video has nothing to do with supplements. It simply explains how people can go out and be exposed to sunshine and receive reduced risk of cancer.

FOX NEWS REPORTER: And it's anything but a conventional prescription to health.

[quick clips playing from various Dr. Mercola educational videos]

DR. MERCOLA: "…… the more raw food you can eat, the better."

FOX NEWS REPORTER: Raw foods, like eggs, meat and unpasteurized milk. As for medicine, ---

DR. MERCOLA: There are simpler, less expensive, less toxic options.

FOX NEWS REPORTER: A claim the pharmaceutical industry calls, "absurd."

Dr. Mercola's Comment:

Now, this next clip was put in, I'm sure, so FOX could be [making air quotes] "fair and balanced. However, I don't think that was why it was in at all. I think they put it in for comic relief!

ALAN GOLDHAMMER, PHD, PHRMA, PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY REPRESENTATIVE: We think he under-represents, in a very marked way, the importance of the pharmaceutical industry in providing therapies for patients that need them.

FOX NEWS REPORTER: Mercola is quick to fire back at the billion-dollar industry, relishing his role as the self-proclaimed, alternative guru.

Dr. Mercola's Comment:

Now, I'm getting mad, because not only are they distorting the facts, but they are lying! I never called myself a "guru" on my website or in public or to this reporter. But many media publications have, such as The LA Times and Time Magazine and a number of others. But it wasn't me.

DR. MERCOLA: The bulk of the healthcare problems that we have in this country are primarily related to the pharmaceutical industry. We are spending more than $2 trillion a year for healthcare in the United States, $2 trillion a year. And I have no problem with spending the money if we were getting great results, but we aren't.

Dr. Mercola's Comment:

Here's that YouTube clip again, and you'll see how the producer uses it to set up a link to the viewers to make it appear that I am selling supplements to prevent the risk of cancer and link it to this FDA letter I received. It's nothing but distortions, deceptions and lies.

FOX NEWS REPORTER: The FDA sent him a warning letter last fall, challenging his claim that some of his products, "inhibit cancer cell growth and lowers blood pressure," calling them, in effect, unapproved drugs.

Dr. Mercola's Comment:

There. You can see how the producer twisted the facts to have the viewers believe that, that video was recommending supplements to lower the risk of cancer, when it was recommending nothing more than simple sun exposure.

FOX NEWS REPORTER: They're essentially saying some of your claims are outrageous. Aren't they now?

DR. MERCOLA: It's not outrageous. It's just not allowed, and the letters that we received from the FDA are old letters, and the concerns and complaints addressed in those letters have been addressed, and it's not occurring on our site anymore. We're in total compliance with the FDA.

FOX NEWS REPORTER: "Not so," says the FDA. Mercola's case is still an open investigation, and no one from the FDA will comment on an open case.

Dr. Mercola's Comment:

Now, the distortions are so severe that I'm actually considering taking legal action against FOX News. Why? Because they could read the letter from the FDA carefully enough to seek to make a connection between supplements I appear to be selling through my video and a statement that was made in the letter. Yet, they couldn't read carefully enough to find out that everything in that FDA letter has been addressed on my website. That is just simply, pure negligence and libelous, in my viewpoint.

But why did I get the letter from the FDA to begin with? Well, you may not know that the "drug cartel" has effectively manipulated the Congress with the largest political lobby force in Washington, D.C., and they've been able to give the FDA incredible regulatory power that prevents any company from selling supplements and from telling you of any study that was done, (even if it was a placebo-controlled, randomized, double-blind study at the most prestigious universities in the world) that shows a health claim or health benefit. If that company seeks to sell that and share that information with you in the same site, on the same page, or in the same connection, they're in violation of the FDA rules and regulations, and they will receive a letter. If they continue to violate that, there are very serious consequences.

So, it's a manipulated system, and you just seek to do the best that you can. But I've paid attorneys to vet this because it's a very complicated issue. Unfortunately, the first legal firm I hired failed, and I had to hire a different firm in Washington, D.C., and we've paid these attorneys $500 an hour. We've paid them tens of thousands of dollars to make sure that we are in absolute legal compliance with the FDA.

Well, that's all for now. But please be sure and stay tuned for Part 2 of this interview.

Dr. Mercola, A few words of encouragement if I may!

When you throw a rock in the dark and somebody screams you know you hit something!

You hit hard and they are screaming! I did some comparing once monitoring commercials on Fox compared to other networks and they have about 1 ½ times as many Pharma commercials as others! They are owned by "Big Pharma and the Bush Boys". (Good name for a trash-rock band, huh?) Oh, and by the way, I am a conservative!  It’s moments like this that wake me up about who you can trust!

You did a great job and people know you are telling it like it is!

It's just so typical of our day and age- drugs rule and and the media can twist anything around to their advantage!
Just keep doing what you are good at- you know what's right.
Do you really want to waste your energy on getting back at them? Put it into something else- there is a reason why things happen.

I totally agree, this is a start of the big battle ahead. Big Pharma is losing market share and its harder to find useless drugs to flood the market.  The publics opinion is changing, they are seeking a natural approach to health.

Dr. Mercola you need to get your legal team together and consider POSSIBLE LAW SUITS.

From what i heard, you reccomend raw meats, and are a self proclaimed guru.  Gather your evidence, and see if you have a case.  I'm sure there's no shortage of lawyers who wuold like to have a case against Fox News.

OR IF NOT, an alternate approach, is to personally write a letter to their producer, explaining your unhappiness with their coverage.  If they are legitimate, which I think they are, they will give you another chance  (or gie themselves another chance) to set the record strait.

Don't be so quick to jump on Fox, everyone makes mistakes, plus consider their media audience is MUCH DIFFERENT from your internet audience, so they may have to explain in a different manner to the public at large what you are doing (even though it may sounds ridiculous to you and us).   Remember the TV viewing public is quite different than most people here.  Fox news may just be on your side, but if you think they violated any laws, please be quick to legally jump on them, or express your concerns about their misrepresentation immediately.

Also, be sure to site PubMed journals and scientific studies, its not like your just 'touting this stuff,' you just collect the good evidence, you are not coming up with anything yourself.  No magic here.

Hi Dr. Mercola, I think for your own protection, you should have your own video recording interviews so you can publish the raw uncut video displaying how the reporters greet you and treat you well, and you may casually talk to them that may help them bring out their own opinion of how they see drug companies and or what they think of you.

The opportunity here is if they talk bad about you, you have the contrary in their own words that can make them look like a fool. Lets hope fox is not reading this.

I have been interested in health and aware as a consumer for over 13 years of the many health warnings that even you publish. When I first requested information as a consumer in a health food store, I thought it was suspicious that the information for products aren't allowed to be with the products but actually away from them and that was the law! That was my wake up call, it didn't make sense and from that point on the government left a trail of things that didn't make sense.

The more I asked questions, the more decietful the answers were.

Right on Dr. Gussa!  If you look at the way Fox interjects 'quack and snake oil salesman' like they did,  it is 'by-the-book' mind control.  It is the 'ooga booga' effect that Fox News tries to use as best they can so the average Fox News watcher, who probably does not even have enough brains to think critically, computes Dr. Mercola = Bad, Big Pharma and pills = Good!  Interestingly, they are the network of choice in the White House. They know that the masses are so dumbed down that they have to make it as simple as possible for them to understand even when it comes to planting their propaganda and mind control.  Goes to show that one cannot trust Fox news even if you know the reporter, sad to say!   My advice to anyone who is to be interviewed by Fox News:   Run!!(LOL)

Some, like myself, say Fox News is a den of vipers!  ;)

That said,  I would like to tell Dr. Mercola thanks and not just for myself but for the many many people that he has helped wake up to health is and how to control one's health and not just listen like a robot to the prescription pushing doctors who stopped investigating what "healthy" actually is when they left med school, if they did then!  Many people are waking to the realization of the corruption and rackets of the FDA and Big Pharma!  People are thinking for themselves. This is a great thing!

This is why I NEVER watch FOX news!  They just look for high ratings on whatever they can distort.  They appeal to the "way out there" conservatives.

You don't ever hear them twisting the report on the FDA and the USDA regarding our food that is supplied by third world countries, and only 1% gets inspected

Considering what has happened with the pet recall, the vitamin C supplements, and the wheat that they aren't sure wasn't tainted with melamine that we consume, I think that's just disgusting!!

I think we should be sending Fox news as many comments about their lies and deception as gets posted on this website. But don't forget all the news channels twist the truth so far that it broke a long time Ago! I pray the exposure brings more people to your website to learn more about the truth. Thank You for what you do Dr. Mercola!

Dr. Mercola,
I did not see the video, but read the transcript. Yeah, it wasn't exactly friendly, but unfair--I don't think so. I've been into natural medicine and a vegetarian (I know you think that's not so good) and after researching much myself and talking to many have concluded you should follow your libertarianism. The fault is with the people, they have the freedom as you and I have done to make better choices but don't. No one is hypnotized by Big Pharma. Get over the Big Pharma thing, stop blamming Fox etc.

One quick word about Fox News.  Does anyone remember when the group of investigative journalist put together a story about Monsanto and rBGH that was supposed to run in Florida?  Well, the story did not run as planned for the simple reason that Monsanto’s lawyers felt it was too inflammatory eventhough their story was backed by facts. The journalists were fired/ quit and not given whistleblower status.  So much for fair and balanced… Dr. Mercola, you are quite a thorn in the side of Monsanto (a very large advertiser on Fox) or any other company involved in the GMO food industry and anyone else that is trying to poison us.  KEEP IT UP!!!

Chris, I whole-heartedly agree.  Poke them rattlesnakes, get bit!

Some observations:

1) My firsthand experience with the media is, you’re lucky if they get anything right at all.  The fact that they spelled Dr. Mercola’s name correctly and somehow associated him with alternative medicine is almost more than one could hope for.  This is a major plus for the good Dr. -- massive free advertising.  The rest of it is standard anti-alt medicine trash talk, and it doesn’t really matter who’s on the receiving end of it.  Conventional “media wisdom” is that all alt medicine is simply a clueless bunch of Echinacea munchin’ ex-flower children sitting in a circle making ommmm….. sounds.  To expect anything less from corporate media is a bit naïve.  Corporate media is going to support corporate medicine, end of story.  My advice to Dr. Mercola is to smother them with facts and love.  They likely want neither (well certainly not the facts), but that is the constructive thing to do.

2) Any “news” organization that has to go out of its way to specifically indicate that they (and apparently they alone) are “fair and balanced” is, by definition, neither.  Ludicrous, really.

3) What goes around, comes around.  On April 16, 2007, Dr. Mercola posted “Fox News Has a Long History of Reporting Bias” on VitalVotes.  While this assertion is obvious to most anyone after about five minutes of viewing (and not just Fox, by the way), it nonetheless set the stage for Dr. Mercola’s interview experience.  Really, what could one expect, that Fox would rise to the bait and not display bias when reporting on Dr. Mercola?  Maybe in some parallel universe…

Smoke and Mirrors are in use big time here!
Dr. Mercola overstepped his arena when he placed the article about "High energy " drinks causing diarrhea and rapid aging.

And he even named one,  "Full Throttle"!,  Which happens to be distributed by Coca Cola!

Doc, you stepped on some big toes, who just happen to have a lot of money invested in the media circus.  They even have more control and leverage then the pharma mafia!!

Here there slamming you without even taken the blame!

By the way I started drinking Full Throttle around Christmas.  I just stopped last week.  They are highly addictive for me and I have had constant diarrhea since a couple of weeks of starting to drink it!

Your article helped me to realize that I was abusing my health.
Thank you!

Faux News....

yes, it seems that you've ruffles a few feathers in big pharma.

I've a cousin who deals drugs for the pharmaceutical companies. She drives a BMW, takes "antipasto plates" to the poor overworked GPs (which they are with Oz's health care system, takes them to seminars at high profile places.

Her brother inlaw worked for the same company, selling the same drugs, but for veterinarian purposes (still overprescribed, and leading to all sorts of issues wrt antibiotic resistance etc). He drove a Ford Falcon, and didn't deliver lunches or holidays. He sold the same drugs, off the same lines for 1/10 the price. He wasn't paid as well either.

As an Australian, I apologise for our releasing Rupert Murdoch upon the rest of you

I'm just thrilled that there are still some good doctors out there in the world that aren't bought off by the big pharma.  It's obvious to me to see who the good docs are and Dr. Mercola is at the top of the list.  He's taking a stand for the little people against the big guys.  Way to go Dr. Mercola and thanks a million.

The GEICO Caveman TV commercial comes to mind.  The FOX TV talking head and Big Pharma is GEICO, and guess who is the caveman?   Hahaha

Thank you for sharing your healthy wisdom with us Dr. Mercola.  It seems you are caught up in the second of the three steps of acceptance of a new paradigm.

What was the repeating line from COOL HAND LUKE, from the Warden?

"What we-all got here, is a FAILURE TO COMMUNICATE!"

What a TOTAL HACK JOB, from the so-called "fair and balanced" network...

But then again, it is not surprising at all, when one sees the ma$$ive number of revenue generating pharmaceutical brand commerical$ on the Fox Network.

Hmmmmm?  Do you think there might be a CONNECTION in trying to disk Dr. Mercola, and major Big Pharmaceutical advertisers on Fox?!

Nah, I must be hallucinating again; give one more to those SOMA's , or Soylent Green Cubes........ because I LIKE THE CREEPY ABE LINCOLN, GROUND HOG & DEEP SEA DIVER COMMERCIAL that maybe will eventually proven, like many other sleep aids, to be suicide inducing, but not until there is a BODY COUNT that can't be hidden.

FDA = Fraud, Deceit, Always
FOX = A predatory small fury feral carnivore, that is fanged, clawed,
territorial, burrows below ground, and most enjoyed

Arrrrrgh!

I am relatively new to this site and to date have enjoyed and appreciated the balanced and healthful  information being disseminated.  Living in the UK we are subject to a daily onslaught of distorted, misleading and often downright  dishonest  media items designed specifically to sell another newspaper or raise  the ratings.
It would appear that an agenda to sensationalize any situation at every opportunity and  embarrass and degrade  ANY individual  who   provides potential copy  has become normal business practice for some of our less savory institutions.   EVERY  citizen is  only  a  heartbeat away from the predatory attention of a roving reporter looking to fill a spot  on a day with no news.  What can we do?
STOP watching!
Email in and TELL them you are not watching.
Tell ALL your friends.
Ask them to do similar.
Vote with your feet and your pocket book.
STOP buying newspapers which lack integrity.
Do not support them with another dime.
Make it your best loved hobby to tell everyone you meet  that WE have to deal with the gutter press and unscrupulous TV channels, those who distort the truth, pollute our minds and bring a negative energy into our lives.
The FOX report in question is a pure disgrace and the biased, sloppy reporting would have been immediately clear and obvious to anyone who had previously visited Dr. Mercola's web site.
SHAME ON YOU FOX!   It is equally clear that for those individuals who  had  no previous knowledge of the site  they could hardly have failed to form a less than positive opinion of the  doctor.
Let us hope that on this occasion we the viewing public have the last word and that for their malicious efforts they have indeed shot themselves in the foot,,,,,,,,,,, and in the wallet.

Whoa!  Hold on there, Uncle Russ!  A fox is a beautiful, spiritual animal .  Like us, he's a carnivor and a skilled survivor. The fact that the pharma-dominated network named itself after this animal does NOT make the fox a bad guy.  As Charlton groans in Soylent Green "it's PEOPLE".  Yes, it's PEOPLE who sell their souls for the "other Green".  That's OUR species...and there is no more cavalier, uncaring , wasteful, manipulative and greedy group of carnivores on the planet.

Calamity

p.s.  Dr. M, I can't load the interview for some reason, but I trust your take on it.  The networks aren't ready to broadcast the truth about the house-of-cards structure of our corporate-dominated government. (PBS does the best job, as always, and for obvious reasons.) When that house of cards comes down, we will all pay the price.

Dr Gussa - cool perspective (the "throw rocks" one).  Remember what Matt79 posted:

Truth Goes Thru 3 Stages:

Stage 1: first it is ridiculed.
Stage 2: then it is violently argued against..
Stage 3: finally it isaccepted as self-evident.

Dr. Mercola cannot be immune to this immutable law, and should be encouraged rather than dismayed that he has stepped into the Stages of Truth.

Stage 2 is "violently opposed." That means interrogations, beatings, imprisonment and assassinations. Thank goodness our good doctor is prominent enough they can't get away with most of that, but I hope he will be careful.

Pat - thanks.  Sometimes navigating this site or the web is so slow, I just try so hard to get it right, and then my good enough threshold drops a coupla notches.  (I was actually struggling to recall that particlar item).  Atkins (God rest his soul) went through Stage 1, died during Stage 2, and Stage 3 he watches from afar.  The interesting thing is those who say "of course it's self-evident" will never see their feelings in Stages 1 & 2 as contradictory.  Stages 1 & 2 are disconnected and unrelated somehow to Stage 3 in the conventional mind (my theory anyway).

Here is a condensed version of my email to Fox.

Dear Fox News,

I have been fuming over the April 24th report you did on Dr. Mercola. Fair and balanced, not at all. If you would have truly investigated Dr. Mercola’s web site and the information he offers in regards to eating right, exercise and healthy methods to get your body to avoid deadly diseases, this report would have had much more to offer than slanderous spin. Shame on you!

I am a Breast Cancer survivor and I used to take various medicines for my heart, diabetes and osteoporosis which made me sicker the longer I took them.  After researching and using Dr. Mercola views and other doctors like him who teach you how give your body what it needs to be healthy and reverse the damage you’ve done rather than poisoning your body with drugs that stop it from functioning as it is originally designed, I have become healthy, drug and cancer free.  No wonder the drug companies don’t like that kind of talk.  They just lost a lot of money since I became healthy.

I worked for 10 years in allopathic medicine but left and went into complementary health therapies after I saw what they did for me. Now I’m doing for others and seeing their transformation as well. There is no “magic bullet” or pill that cures disease and Dr. Mercola is the first one to advocate that. Give your body nutrition, the adequate rest and exercise it needs, stay away from processed foods and toxic chemicals and your body will be a mean disease fighting machine…that’s what it is designed to do.

Take a look at statistics, people are spending their money on healthy options because they are literally sick of drugs and unhealthy foods. They are becoming informed…unlike Fox News.

Yours Truly,

Michele
