In marriage, we believe that our partners are as responsive to our needs as we are to theirs, according to a study by Yale University researchers that lends some support to the Law of Attraction.
According to the
Law of Attraction, your thoughts and feelings create your life, and attract the experiences you're currently having. In other words, if you treat your spouse kindly and believe he or she will treat you the same, that's what you'll experience.
The researchers called their finding "projection of responsiveness," meaning that you project your behaviors toward your spouse on him or her, and believe that he or she acts similarly, regardless of their true behavior.
It turns out that people who
care about their marriage partners also believe that their partners reciprocate that care, and they report being
more satisfied with their relationship.
Where you need to be careful is in believing that you don't care about your spouse. In this case, you'll tend to feel that your spouse doesn't care about you either, and will likely have a hard time feeling satisfied, content and happy.
