Osteoporosis Drug Causes Jawbone Rot
People who take bisphosphonate drugs for osteoporosis or cancer are at risk of osteonecrosis of the jaws, which is permanent damage in which the
jawbone rots away
.
There are two varieties of the drugs, one taken intravenously by cancer patients, the other taken in lower-dose pill form by those with osteoporosis (Fosamax, Actonel and
Boniva
). The risk of jaw rot is said to be highest among those taking the drug intravaneously, though adverse affects can take three years to appear in oral users.
The drugs are problematic because they stay in the bone indefinitely and may upset the cell balance in how the jaws regenerate and remove unhealthy bone.
The problem is so severe that experts are now advising dentists to ask patients whether they are taking the drugs and to screen for this condition. Osteonecrosis is becoming so common that dentists are even referring to it as fossy jaw (after the drug
Fosamax
).
What can you do to prevent osteoporosis -- without exposing yourself to a potentially dangerous drug that can kill your jawbone? You guessed it:
exercise regularly
and eat a
healthy diet
.

If you read the extra fine print on the drug inserts for these medications you will find the possible side effect of osteoporosis mentioned. Why would you treat a problem with something that can cause the problem.

One would have to ask, is it worth losing part of one's jawbone, when osteoporosis is preventable by diet and exercise most of the time? Even if it is only a rare occurrence, would you want to chance it?

I always thought osteoporosis was something that happens to people as they age. It's not a disease, it's what happens to your bones. Lot of seniors including my mother want to "cure" it. They all seem to have a wonderful trusting doctor advising them. Anything I might say is discredited because afterall, how could I have answers from reading a few sights on the internet?
It's so frustrating at times watching people self destruct when there's nothing you can do.

ONCE AGAIN...
There is no acceptable excuse for ignorance with the amount of "easy to understand" factual information available about Good Health.
ONLY GOD & NATURE HEAL...but somehow people turn away from this Simple TRUTH because it requires taking responsibility for their own actions!
Many people have bought into the fear concept that is heavily promoted by the medical-dental -insurance-pharmaceutical community...that's the game plan!
JUST SAY NO TO LEGAL DRUGS- have Faith and take responsibility for your own health if not you're slowly killing yourself!

Oh Katy I was being ironical...... My wife was on that stuff lucky her tummy didn't like it. She had osteopenia. Her last bone density test showed bones of a 30 year old. :) Did it following Dr. M recommendation. Its a matrix to keep strong bones all your life. She not the best at following diet stuff either.

I am not sure I have an answer Katy why they choose the wrong path. The best I can come up with is people either "get busy living or get busy dieing". Katy you sure you want to watch my post danger is involved. :)
