One out of every four homeless people in the United States is a veteran, even though veterans are only 11 percent of the general adult population. The problem affects both older veterans and younger ones who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Some advocates say the presence of such young veterans is a bad sign. It took approximately a decade Vietnam veterans to show up among the homeless in large numbers. Intense and repeated deployments could be leaving newer veterans particularly vulnerable. Daniel Tooth, director of veterans affairs for Lancaster County, PA, predicts an eventual “tsunami” of homeless vets as a result of recent wars.
Personally, I hope that more practitioners can be made aware of the incredible effects that the Emotional Freedom Technique, an energy psychology tool, can have on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). If these vets can get treated with EFT, it could very well give them their lives back.
