FDA Panel Recommends Against Avastin

A panel of government advisers have stated that the drug Avastin should not be approved for expanded use in breast-cancer patients.

Prior to the panel’s decision, FDA scientists had already noted that while Avastin slows the progression of cancer, it does not improve patients' lifespan overall.

Panelists voted 5 to 4 against recommending approval.
