U.S. Worst in Preventable Death Ranking

In new rankings looking at preventable deaths due to treatable conditions in 19 industrialized nations, France, Japan and Australia were rated the best and the United States was rated the worst.

Preventable deaths accounted for 23 percent of overall deaths in men and 32 percent of deaths in women. If the U.S. health care system performed as well as the top three, there would be 101,000 fewer deaths in the U.S. each year.

The large number of Americans who lack any type of health insurance -- about 47 million, according to U.S. government estimates -- was likely a key factor in the U.S.’s poor ranking.

Preventative health protocols remain vastly superior in lower cost, effectiveness, and lack of side effects, when compared to reactive drug and medical protocols at much great expense, and more bad side effects, up to, and including, higher death frequencies.

THe US spends billions in preventative measures for things like smoking, fire prevention (remember Smokey the Bear?), Louie the Lightning bug; etc.  Why not health care?  It's not profitable for big pharma, therefore it's not profitable for the talking heads in Washington.

I'm with you Russ, preventative care is what counts.

Remember when Doctors go on strike anywhere in the world the local death rate goes down!

I wonder about the relationship between big pharma and health insurance companies. Seems that preventative measures would be a cost -reducing practice for the insurance companies. That would translate to more profit, since natural methods are generally cheaper(in the long run) than drugs.

Has anyone seen the documentary film by Michael Moore "Sicko"?  If not, everyone should see it asap.  I couldn't believe some of the stuff that goes on in this country that the government, big pharma, and insurance companies cover up on a daily basis.  And "Yes", they are all in it together...... Please watch the film if you haven't seen it.  It's in movie rental stores now.  It will definitely open your eyes.  It did mine!
