The Secret Plan to Fluoridate Britain's Water

Nearly half of England’s drinking water could have fluoride added to it under a 'secret' Government plan. Although plans to add the chemical to more of the nation's water supply were announced in February, the scale of the Government's intentions has remained under wraps until now.

Dental health chiefs want to add the chemical to 40 percent of England's water supply to combat high levels of tooth decay. Critics have said that the 'mass medication' of water without the population's consent is an invasion of their rights.

Fluoride has been linked to diseases including brittle bones and cancer. At present, only 10 percent of England’s tap water has fluoride added.

Part 1 -

At the moment the Southampton PCT (Primary Care Trust) and Southern Water are pushing forward with their plans to fluoridate the water in the city and parts of the surrounding area.

There was a poll in the daily paper (since nothing had been done elsewhere to survey people on whether they wanted it 'yes' or 'no') and it came out with 80% opposition - the same paper has had screeds of comments from angry people opposed to it because it's toxic and poisonous, lowers IQ, damages the thyroid and bones, causes cancer, and leads to dental and skeletel fluorosis. Besides being unethical mass-medication.

Thankfully, a group of residents have set up a group 'Fight Fluoridation in Southampton' and are urging the people of the city to write to their MPs, the water company, the PCT etc and giving out the addresses to write to. They've also approached lawyers about it to take it to the EU Human Rights courts if it goes ahead.

Fluoridation in the UK is ILLEGAL under:
1. The Poisons Act
2. The Codified Pharmaceuticals Directive 2001/83/EEC (as an unregistered substance for medicinal purposes; fluorosilicates haven't been registered as medicinal substances or tested for safety properly for that purpose, yet we're told the reason for fluoridation is to have an effect on dental caries - thus rendering it an unregistered medicianal substance under the act)
3. The Council of Europe's Convention on Human Rights & Biomedicine
4. The European Convention on Human Rights
5. Article 35 of the European Charter of Fundamental Rights
6. The Water Bill - the offer of indemnity against liability to water companies is illegal under this act
7. Voting on it would also violate Article 17 of the EU Convention on Human Rights as it would deny anyone not wanting that medication the right to refuse due to a majority vote

2 - Contd

Also, if you're in the UK and don't want your water fluoridated, you are legally entitled to refuse to pay that part of your water bill, and one lawyer consulted by the anti-fluoride group has stated you can legally refuse to pay any of your water bill at all. This is because you're being given a contaminated product that isn't what you asked for, therefore as a consumer it's within your right to refuse to pay. You could even go so far as to charge Southern Water (or whatever other company) your bills for bottled water or Reverse Osmosis filters, as they're leaving you no choice but to use it. Apparently the government will reimburse them so there should be no argument.

There's a Facebook group called 'Fight Fluoridation in Southampton' who have all the contact addresses and emails of the PCT and Southern Water and are encouraging everyone concerned to write in and tell them you don't want it, it violates those conventions, bills and treaties, and that you will be charging them for your bottled water and refusing to pay your bills if they bring it in. Make them scared, show them they're lose their profits, put up a fight - they're starting to look worried!!

DizzyIzzy...thanks so much for that. I was convinced that all our water in Britain was fluoridated - I shall now trawl the net to see if where I live has fluoride in the water, and if it has, I will do battle!!!

Chovihani, most of the fluoridated water in the UK is in the Midlands/Birmingham area, if that helps!!

If they want to combat the high levels of tooth decay then perhaps they should be educating the public about the damage done by sugars in their diet rather than forcing this ineffective measure on them.

Secrecy is the enemy of freedom. And government loves to be secretive. (< this one might even be worthy of a philosophical quote...)

It really frustrates me how everytime a bad and usually dangerous idea is brought up, the critics against it seem to always be the underdog minority. Did you know there was also once a proposal in Britain to fluoridate the school's milk? It failed, due to the ensuing uproar.

Fluoride is neither needed nor necessary for dental health. And I can say that the benefits do not outweigh the risks nor is it right to subject people to involuntary medication.

This is really weird because Health Canada recently came out saying that they want to reduce the levels of flouride in water.  Surely the U.K. has the same medical information and health reports as we do.

Health Canada is getting very scary. They are already seizing importations of supplements and many have been taken off the market. This is a worldwide problem. The US is next.

Hi Nutritiousmeal, Health Canada has always been scary.  I sent an email to Health Minister Tony Clement asking him to hire Dr. Shiv Chopra as an advisor, lol.
