Soluble Fiber and Peppermint Oil Can Treat Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Fiber and peppermint oil are both effective therapies for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and should become first-line treatments, according to a new study. National guidelines on the management of IBS should be updated in light of this evidence, according to the study’s authors.

IBS causes abdominal pain and an irregular bowel habit, and could affects as much as a fifth of the population. The exact cause of IBS is unknown, so it is difficult to treat.

Researchers performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized trials comparing fiber, peppermint oil, and antispasmodics with a placebo or no treatment in more than 2500 adult patients with IBS. All of them were found to be effective. Peppermint oil seemed to be the most effective treatment of the three.

Irritable Bowel causes inflammation in the pocket lining due to not cleaning out the colon etc.  Fiber is a major need to get the garbage moving.  The way I see it, is to try to visualize not cleaning out your home for 30 years.  You never take out the garbage, wash the dishes, flush the toilet. . . . you get the picture.  The same thing happens in our bodies if we don't make an effort to keep our systems cleaned out.  The garbage gets stinky, full of parasites and bugs, and is like a cess pool.
I'm glad to see Dr. Mercola bringing this much needed topic out into the open for people to see the truth!  Colon cancer happens only to people who don't keep their bowels moving with proper food choices and FIBER!

Do you rub it on your belly or take by mouth? I actually have some from Young Living. It really helps with nausea. I rub it on and place a drop on my tongue.
