How TV and Internet Harm Your Children

A review released today, which analyzed 173 strong research papers and nearly three decades of research, finds that 80 percent of studies agree that heavy media exposure increases the risk of harm to children, including obesity, smoking, sex, drug and alcohol use, attention problems and poor grades.

Some of the links are very strong. 93 percent of studies found that children with greater media exposure have sex earlier. Authors say the soundest studies are those linking media use with obesity.

The review provides overwhelming evidence of the importance of limiting children's use of media, and teaching them to critically evaluate the ever-growing volume of text, images and sounds with which they are bombarded.

The tv is bad in general, i would limit as much as possible. Very few things are worth watching, i usually stick to a limited amount of television only dealing with humor (since laughter is such a great medicine haha) I strongly am against watching news on television or even many shows that are educational that are either outdated or outright lies.

The way I remember it, it was drive-in movie exposure that increased sex, alcohol use and smoking in children (well, 16 year olds), lol.

I quit watching television about 2 years ago and I haven't missed it at all. There is more time to read, spend time with family(wife, dogs, chickens and a cat),and generally not pollute the brain with garbage. I guess one can tell I don't have a very high opinion of TV.What you see and hear affects you whether or not you are aware of it!!
