The CDC Foundation is supposedly an independent, nonprofit organization that exists to “forge effective partnerships between CDC [the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] and others”. Who exactly are these others? To understand the true interests of the CDC Foundation, take a look at their list of corporate partners.
The Foundation’s latest attempt at fear-mongering to increase drug sales is a series of articles about the feature film Contagion, a fictional account of a respiratory disease outbreak. The movie was partially filmed at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Headquarters in Atlanta, and Kate Winslet spent time interviewing the director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD) at the CDC to prepare for her role in the movie.
According to the CDC Foundation:
“Can what happened in this film really happen? ... CDC is always preparing for, and working to prevent, the next pandemic. At the center of the nation's public health system, CDC exists to protect communities and save lives by controlling disease outbreaks like the 2009 H1N1 pandemic.”
As you will no doubt recall, that was a “pandemic” that never materialized. The CDC Foundation claims that this is because ineffective vaccines somehow “prevented millions of cases”.
