Useless vaccines continue to be one of the drug industry’s best revenue streams. Revenues for vaccines are expected to continue showing double-digit growth for the foreseeable future.
The growth has been driven by media campaigns touting vaccines for adults and encouraging the use vaccines for their dubious flu prevention effects, as well as the introductions of new vaccines.
PharmPro reports:
“... [W]orld sales of adult vaccines reached $12.5B in 2010, up from $10.1B in 2009 largely on strong growth of influenza vaccines ... World sales of pediatric vaccines exceeded $12.7B in 2010”.
