Celebrity chef Paula Deen has developed Type 2 diabetes. Deen has been criticized throughout her career for promoting sugar-laden foods known to lead to obesity and contribute to diabetes risk. While she has apparently had the disease for years, she only made her condition public recently.
Deen has become the spokeswoman for the diabetes medication Victoza.
Time Magazine reports:
“There is something slightly unsavory about the fact that Deen has continued to advocate the type of unhealthy, fattening foods that contribute to obesity and, therefore, to Type 2 diabetes, only to step forward now as the pitchperson for a drug that is designed to treat that disease, which she herself has had in secret for years.”
