Take Some Olive Oil For Your Headache?

Olive oil, specifically extra-virgin olive oil, is clearly one of the good oils for you. And, according to new research, it contains oleocanthal, a natural anti-inflammatory agent that has the same effect as taking ibuprofen, a potentially toxic over-the-counter (OTC) drug.

In fact, a "daily dose" of olive oil in the neighborhood of 50 grams equaled about 10 percent of an adult dosage of ibuprofen.

Before heading to the corner grocery store, however, there are some caveats:

  • Only the freshest and more expensive kind of extra-virgin oilve oil contains enough oleocanthal to do the trick.
  • Olives that contain the highest levels of oleocanthal are grown in Tuscany.
  • Domestic olives, like the ones grown in California, have the lowest quantity. Age and cooking destroy this compound.

There are some ways that are probably more effective and a lot cheaper than olive oil or better for you than an OTC drug. For one, eating foods based on your body's unique nutritional type usually relieves between 70-80 percent of the pain.

And, as you may already know, psychological acupuncture approaches, like the Emotional Freedom Technique, can be incredibly effective in treating headaches and are also great tools for targeting emotional issues.
