More Bad News About Toxic Chemicals in Your Baby's Toys

Perhaps, it was more than good timing that the Wall Street Journal finally wised up to the dangers of phthalates last week. The U.S. Public Interest Research Group released a study demonstrating the prevalence of toxic phtalates and flame retardants (PBDEs) in common baby products.

Some of the products listed in the report containing these harmful chemicals you'll want to keep your child away from:

  • Disposable crib mattress pad (PBDEs)
  • Sleep positioner (PBDEs)
  • Bath toy books (phthalates)
  • Teething toys (phthalates)

It comes as no surprise the Toy Industry Association blasted the report as baseless, and needlessly frightening parents about a threat that doesn't exist. If industry has nothing to hide, however, they should be providing any and all health-impact information to the FDA and consumers on product labels too, according to the Public Interest Research Group.
