Obesity Makes The World Look Bigger Than It Should Be

Ever notice how much our lives have changed due to the obesity epidemic in countless ways beyond health? For example, more weight means higher airfares and, often, lower salaries.

Especially if you're morbidly obese, expect your medical bills to reflect all those excess pounds too, because many hospitals have retrofitted their facilities with larger beds, wheelchairs, doorways, CT scan machines and even bed clothes to accommodate you.

If you're at all skeptical about my argument, consider this: Morbidly obese patients -- those weighing more than 350 pounds -- amounted to about a third of the daily census of one St. Louis hospital last year. Even worse, one union representing nurses and health-care workers in 18 states has called for new laws forcing hospitals to buy the necessary equipment to lift obese patients safely and prevent employee injuries. To top off the indignity, that same St. Louis hospital is working on a larger, wider and leak-proof body bag too...
