Lawsuits Debate Lasting Lipitor Damage

Just as Teva Pharmaceuticals received final approval by the FDA for a generic statin, two American men are suing mega-drugmaker Pfizer Inc. in the courts, based on claims the company didn't warn them enough about the side effects of Lipitor.

The men believe Lipitor is the reason they suffered muscle damage, weakness, excruciating pain and memory problems, symptoms that subsided somewhat after one of the patients involved with the lawsuits stopped taking it.

No doubt, Pfizer will defend its turf: On the market for a decade, Lipitor is the world's best selling drug with sales of more than $12 BILLION annually. For the record, some of the other side effects associated with statins:

  • An increased risk of cancer
  • Depression
  • Heart failure
  • Pancreatitis

Fact is, you don't need to take a statin drug at all if you begin to eliminate the amount of grains and sugars in your diet and start a daily exercise program focusing on improving your cardiovascular system.
