Hospitalization May Cause Physical And Cognitive Decline

Two recent studies have both suggested that hospitals could be the last place you want to be if you are sick.

One study took a look at long-term physical and mental health outcomes of patients in intensive care units.  The patients suffered from impaired strength, reduced range of motion, and lower physical function.

The second study followed 3,000 adults for six years.  There were 40 percent more cases of eventual dementia appearing in those who had been hospitalized, even for a non-critical illness, at least once during the study period.
