A Natural Alternative to Artificial Preservatives

Onion have antioxidant and antimicrobial properties, which means it is possible to use them for food preservation -- a natural alternative to unhealthy artificial food preservatives.

A study has shown shows that the flavonoids of onion increase the life of foods. Flavonoids are phenolic compounds present in many plants.  The yellow variety in particular is a good source of flavonoids.

Flavonoids also have beneficial effects for health due to their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, cardioprotective, vasodilatory and anti-carcinogenic properties.
