Why Exercise May Not Work for Weight Loss

Exercise plays a crucial role in weight loss -- but it is a different one from what you might expect. Studies indicate that exercise, by itself, will not help you lose weight; it will, however, keep you from gaining weight once you are in good shape.

According to the New York Times:

“`... exercise by itself is pretty useless for weight loss,’ says Eric Ravussin ... an expert on weight loss. It’s especially useless because people often end up consuming more calories when they exercise.”

In effect, you body prefers to remain at the weight it is used to.
