Silver Filling Use Declines 46 Percent in Three Years

Use of amalgam in dental fillings declined 46 percent in the period from 2004 to 2007, the last year for which information is available. This is in contrast to a mere 1 percent decline in the period from 2001 to 2004.

This means that millions of people are no longer being subjected to mercury fillings.

However, the fight against amalgam is far from over.  The American Dental Association and the World Dental Federation continue to advocate the use of mercury for low-income consumers.
