Better Diet and Exercise Prevent Diabetes

Dieting alone might not be enough to stave off type 2 diabetes, but combining a good diet with exercise could very well do just that.

Sarcopenia is a condition marked by low skeletal muscle mass and strength. New research shows that sarcopenia puts individuals at risk for developing type 2 diabetes.

However, according to Live Science:

“Sarcopenia was associated with insulin resistance in both obese and non-obese individuals ... Sarcopenia was also associated with high blood-sugar levels in obese people but not in thin people.”

This suggests that dieting on its own not enough to stave off diabetes; it is also important to have good muscle mass and strength.
