Need to Check This in Your Parents Before They Go to Hospital if You Want to See Them Back Alive

Before mom or dad is admitted to the hospital, check them for signs of scurvy including bleeding gums (gingivitis), and skin bruising or pinpoint red dots on the skin (petechiae).

These are overt signs of scurvy — a deficiency of vitamin C.

According to a study recently published in the Journal of Nutrition, Health & Aging, 94 percent of older adults with these signs are truly deficient in vitamin C.

If mom or dad enters the hospital with scurvy, they are four times more likely to have underlying heart disease and five times more likely to die while hospitalized compared to patients who are vitamin C-sufficient.
