How Soon After Miscarriage is it Safe to Get Pregnant?

New research suggests that getting pregnant within six months of a miscarriage may offer the best changes of having a healthy baby.

About 85 percent of women who got pregnant within six months of a miscarriage had a healthy baby, compared to 73 percent of those who waited more than two years, Scottish researchers found.

Currently, World Health Organization guidelines recommend women wait at least six months to get pregnant after a miscarriage, a recommendation that the researchers believe should be changed.

USA Today reported:

“[Researchers] said WHO guidelines are based on a study from Latin America, where women usually have children at an earlier age than in the West. Because women in developed countries often wait until they are older to have children … any delays to conception could reduce the chances of a healthy baby.”
