Pink News: Fish Oil Prevents Breast Cancer

Eating oily fish or taking fish oil supplements may help reduce the risk of breast cancer, according to a report at FoodConsumer.org.

According to a study published in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, consumption of fish oil was correlated with a 32 percent reduced risk of breast cancer.

The researchers surveyed 35,000 women ages 50 to 76 in the Vitamins and Lifestyle Cohort on their dietary habits between 2000 and 2002.

“Fish oil, which is high in omega-3 fatty acids, has already been found protective against a number of cancers. Likewise, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), two omega-fatty acids found in fish oil have already been found protective against cancer” Food Consumer said.

The report added that nutrition, diet and lifestyle are also important factors in breast cancer.
