Toddlers' New Favorite Toy Poses Serious Brain Risk

The iPhone may have become the most effective tool in history to calm a fussy toddler. Many iPhone apps aimed directly at preschoolers, such as “Toddler Teasers: Shapes” and “Pocket Zoo”.

It has become a treasured toy for many 1-, 2- and 3-year-olds -- a fact that is causing concern among some childhood development specialists.

According to the New York Times:

“Tovah P. Klein, the director of ... [the] Barnard College Center for Toddler Development (where signs forbid the use of cellphones and other wireless devices) worries that fixation on the iPhone screen every time a child is out and about with parents will limit the child’s ability to experience the wider world.”

Parents might also want to worry about the risk of brain cancer if they let their kids play with this “toy”.
