Chlorella Helps You to Excrete More Mercury

Chlorella is a form of single-celled green algae. For many years, it has been used as a nutritional supplement.

New research investigated the use of Chlorella for mercury detoxification. Researchers examined the absorption and excretion of mercury in mice. Female mice were divided into groups and given methylmercury, with or without doses of Chlorella.

According to the Journal of Toxicological Sciences:

“Total mercury contents in the samples obtained were determined using an atomic absorption method. The amounts of [mercury] excreted in feces and urine of the [mercury and Chlorella] group were increased nearly 1.9 and 2.2-fold compared with those of the [mercury only] group.”

This suggests that the intake of Chlorella may induce the excretion of mercury.
