Medical Center Suspends Cancer Trials for New Patients

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center has temporarily closed all its cancer trials to new patients. Audits have found that several researchers had not properly submitted patient data.

Care for patients already enrolled in the hospital’s 285 oncology trials is continuing. Over 100 of the trials had been accepting new patients.

The Boston Glove reports:

“Problems began to surface last summer, when the Food and Drug Administration found what it called a minor issue with a trial of a potentially important immune-therapy drug for melanoma … [A] routine audit of another of the hospital’s cancer trials this fall ... found similar lapses”.
