Who's Sicker: Older Americans or English?

People 65 or older are likelier to be healthy if they live in England rather than the U.S. However, in the U.S., they’re likelier to live longer.

A new study shows that chronic diseases are more common in older Americans than older Brits. But Americans tend not to die as soon. The reason may be that if you live into your 70’s, the American medical system takes care of you better.

According to CNN:

“Essentially ... Americans are ‘compensating for bad habits.’ Americans would be better off with eating a healthier diet, exercising more, not smoking, drinking only moderately, and reducing the stress in their lives.”
