Even Harvard Scientists Lie

Harvard University has found prominent researcher Marc Hauser “solely responsible” for a number of instances of scientific misconduct. Dr. Hauser, a leader in the field of animal and human cognition, is reported to have improperly performed “data acquisition, data analysis, data retention, and the reporting of research methodologies and results.”

According to the New York Times:

“... [T]hree of the misconduct problems occurred in published articles ... [S]eparately from the Harvard inquiry, Dr. Hauser already had several critics in the scientific community who felt some of his published results were incorrect or unconvincing.”

This is one of the primary reasons why the scientific method frequently fails -- the researchers themselves are corruptible. And scientists are always very likely to report findings that agree with their theories or show the results they desire, whether intentionally or unintentionally.
