Blueberries Linked to Improved Blood Vessel Health

Supplementing your diet with wild blueberries could reduce your blood pressure, according to a new study that examined the effects of the berries on hypertensive rats.

Animals fed a diet supplemented with wild blueberries experienced less blood vessel constriction. The berries may act via the nitric oxide pathway; nitric oxide promotes the relaxation of blood vessels, thereby lowering blood pressure.

“Blueberries, nature's only 'blue' food, are a rich source of polyphenols, potent antioxidants that include phenolics acids, tannins, flavonols and anthocyanins.
