Maternal Obesity is on the Rise

A new study reveals that more than 5 percent of pregnant women in the UK are dangerously overweight. Roughly 38,000 pregnant women have a body mass index is over 35.

According to BBC News:

“The survey warns women about the severe consequences obesity can have on the health of an unborn child. Woman who are obese run twice the risk of having a stillborn child and also put themselves at risk of developing blood clots and high blood pressure.”

The report calls for better advice, care, and support for women during pregnancy; many women have been told that overeating during pregnancy is healthier, which is not the case.
