Psoriasis and Obesity Linked

A new study connects psoriasis to metabolic syndrome elements such as obesity, high blood pressure, and diabetes. Forty percent of people with psoriasis also had features of the metabolic syndrome, compared with 23 percent among those without any symptoms of metabolic syndrome.

The most common form of psoriasis, plaque psoriasis, usually causes red and white scaly patches tp appear on the top layer of the epidermis.

According to Medical News Today:

"... [T]hese findings ... show a doubling in the prevalence of the metabolic syndrome among patients with psoriasis independent of age, sex, race/ethnicity and C-reactive protein levels."
