Air Travel Can Make You Sick, So Take Precautions

The highest risk of germ transmission on a plane comes from the people sitting around you, especially those seated within two rows. However, the dirtiest spots on board are the restrooms, with the worst offenders being sink handles, faucets, soap dispensers and doorknobs.

However, according to Washington Post, there are several steps you can take to stay healthy:

  • Drink water. Drink as much water as possible; avoiding alcohol will help, too.
  • Be wary about that tray. Air carriers with short flight turnover times do not disinfect the trays, armrests, or windows.
  • Keep the air turned on at your seat. Turn the air vent to medium flow. Position it so that the air current blows just slightly in front of your face. This directs germs away from your eyes, nose and mouth.
