Diet Can Mitigate Toxic Effects of Arsenic

If your water is contaminated with arsenic, you may benefit from eating more radishes, sweet potatoes, green papaya and pumpkin.

A study has shown that residents of Bangladesh, a region highly contaminated with arsenic, who had diets relatively high in roots and gourds were less likely to develop skin lesions after being exposed to high levels of arsenic. That most likely means that the chemical was causing fewer toxic effects.

Reuters reports:

"High arsenic exposure can lead to cancer, and chronic exposure to even moderately elevated levels has been linked to high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes."
