Vaccinated Sibling Transmits Rotavirus to Unvaccinated Brother

A two month old child was vaccinated with an orally administered, live, attenuated, pentavalent human-bovine RotaTeq vaccine. About ten days later, his older unvaccinated sibling required unexpected emergency treatment attributed to gastroenteritis.

The vaccine-derived rotavirus was transmitted from the infant to his older sibling.

According to Vaccine Truth:

"Listed as common side effects from the RotaTeq vaccine are diarrhea, vomiting, irritability, otitis media, nasopharyngitis, and bronchospasm."
