Krill Oil Counters Metabolic Dysfunctions

Omega-3 rich krill oil may combat metabolic problems, such as raised fat levels in your heart and liver.

Research found that daily supplements of krill oil were associated beneficial effects on the endocannabinoid system, which is a group of brain receptors that influence appetite, pain sensation, mood and memory.  Only krill oil, and not fish oil, was associated with significant reductions in levels of 2-arachidonoylglycerol, an endocannabinoid associated with obesity.

According to the study in Nutrition and Metabolism:

We have previously shown that krill oil (KO), more efficiently than fish oil, was able to downregulate the endocannabinoid system in different tissues of obese zucker rats ... The results confirmed data in the literature describing increased levels of endocannabinoids in overweight and obese with respect to normo-weight subjects. KO, but not [menhaden oil] or [olive oil], was able to significantly decrease 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG), although only in obese subjects.”
