Past U.S. Medical Testing on Humans Revealed

Not too many decades ago, U.S. government doctors believed it was acceptable to experiment on disabled people and prison inmates. These experiments included giving hepatitis to mental patients, pandemic flu to prisoners, and injecting cancer cells into the chronically ill.

A meeting of the presidential bioethics commission, triggered by the government's apology for federal doctors infecting prisoners and mental patients with syphilis 65 years ago, has brought new attention to these 40 to 80 year old experiments.

According to Yahoo News:

“An exhaustive review ... found more than 40 such studies. At best, these were a search for lifesaving treatments; at worst, some amounted to curiosity-satisfying experiments that hurt people but provided no useful results.”
